Make Strike Actions The Last Resort - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged public sector workers as well as organised labour to make strike actions and agitations the last resort anytime they have any grievances. Strike actions are an absolute last resort. It must not be an action of first resort. We must turn to strike only when everything else has failed. Let us all play by the rules He made this statement on Wednesday during the 2013 May Day celebrations held at Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region. This years celebration was on the theme: Pension-It is your right and your responsibility. In his keynote address, President Mahama said if the country will attain the kind of development it wants for future generations to enjoy, then organised labour must look beyond self-centered agitations involving salaries and allowances alone and come to the table with ideas and suggestions about how we can collectively address these challenges facing the less fortunate in our society According to him, it is expected that once in a while the employees will want to draw the employers attention to their concerns in public agitation; however, there must be dialogue in all situations and not strike actions. He however, appreciated the contributions organised labour has offered to the country and pledged to make a conscious effort to deepen the collaboration between government and organised labour.
