Kumbugu By-Election Was Not Won Solely On The Strength Of The CPP - Kwesi Pratt

The Managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has stated that the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Parliamentary candidate elect for the just ended Kumbugu by-election, Amadu Moses Yahaya, did not win solely on the strength and appeal of the Party. Despite the fact that he believes the candidate on the ticket of the CPP was a good candidate, someone he describes as a grass root candidate who also enjoyed massive support by the constituents in the run up to the by-elections, Mr. Pratt is of the view that the candidate won due to the misunderstanding between the NDC candidate, Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu and the former MP for the area, Ahlaji Mohamed Mumuni. According to him, the MP elect for the Kumbugu Constituency, Amadu Moses Yahaya enjoyed massive votes from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well so a critical analysis would tell you that he did not win solely on the strength on the CPP. Kwesi Pratt, who is a member of the CPP made this analysis on Adom FM on Thursday, during a post elections analysis of the Kumbugu by-elections which took place on Tuesday. The Kumbungu seat became vacant following the appointment of then NDC MP, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni as the Secretary-General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States. However, the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) candidate who went into the election as an underdog was pronounced winner by the Electoral Commission. Amadu Moses Yahaya polled 13,029 of the total vote cast to beat his closest contender, Alhaji Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu of the NDC who pulled a little over 11,000 votes. This means, the CPP has regained the only seat it had in Parliament after its chairperson; Samia Nkrumah lost her seat to the NDC in the 2012 election. This, Kwesi Pratt claims is very good for the party but insisted that the challenge now is how to sustain this victory because the CPP would not always get disgruntled voters of the NDC and NPP on its side.
