Chief Wants Bye-Laws Enforced

Chief of Amasaman Traditional Area, Nii Amasa Osieku II, has called on the Ga-West Municipal Assembly taskforce to enforce its bye-law that enjoins landlords to put in place a place of convenience in their houses. That, he stressed, will help prevent the common practice of putting faces in black polythene bags and throwing them into gutters which turn to pollute the environment and cause cholera outbreak. Nii Amasa OseiKu III made this call at the climax of the annual Ewe community festival called �Tro Makui Dani festival.� The Tro Makui Dani festival is an occasion where Ewes showcase their rich cultural and historical heritage. At Saapeiman, Faase Nii Osieku II also urged government to empower environmental health officials to deal drastically with persons who flout sanitation and environmental protection laws and bye-laws. He used the opportunity to officially opened an ultra-modern place of convenience worth GH� 1.5billion which Togbe Agah Semaglo I, Chief of Saapeiman Faase, built from his own resources for the community. Nii Oseiku noted that he and his elders have not regretted for enstooling Togbe Semaglo, the Ewe community Chief on a Ga land because he is a progressive and respectful person. Togbe Semaglo, who also marked his 3rd anniversary as a chief, said over the years he has been working assiduously to ensure that the environment is kept clean to avoid diseases and epidemic. In addressing the water shortage in the area, Togbe Semaglo indicated that his community can now boast of three bore-holes. Among the dignitaries who garced the occasion included Mr. Sumaila Bielbiel who represented the minister of Information, Hon. Mahama Ayariga. The King of Nortsie of the Republic of Togo, King Akorkoli who was invited to be the Guest of Honour was at the time in France for an equally important royal assignment, but he duly sent a handsome donation and a goodwill message to all Ghanaians and wished the nation unity and peace in the face of a sensitive electoral petition pending before the Supreme Court.
