Highly-Indebted NPPs Ohene Ntow On The Run

Ex-General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), may soon be dragged to court by a student over his failure to settle a 37 million hotel bill he accumulated since 2011, but sneaked out leaving behind his shirts, trousers, supporters, ID cards, photographs and other personal effects. Nana Ohene-Ntow, who at the time of using the hotel identified himself as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dios Springboard Ltd, dealers in Imports, Exports, General Merchants and Manufactures Representatives, sneaked out of the KEPSON Guest House at Akatsi in the Volta Region, and has since refused to clear the GH3,720.00 debt . The ex-NPP General Secretary in an interview with The Herald confirmed sleeping at the guest house and owing them because he was facing some financial difficulties with his creditors currently pursuing him. The manager of the guest house, Jean Igore, a Level 100 student at the University of Professional Studies (UPS) in Accra, has been sacked by the University authorities for owing school fees after his father, who owns KEPSON Guest House, totally refused to pay his school fees until Nana Ohene-Ntow settled the debt to the company. Narrating what he termed as a devastating story Jean who is back in Akatsi told this reporter over the weekend, that on Thursday, July 21, 2011, Nana Ohene-Ntow came to the KEPSON Guest House-Akatsi, in the company of nine (9) men, including one Dave Quarshie, a man he had introduced as his spokesperson. According to Jean, Nana Ohene-Ntow an ex-Radio Broadcaster at Peace FM and the men occupied 10 rooms in his fathers guest house, booking a room each for the nine men he came with. Initially, the ex-NPP scribe paid for the 10 rooms on daily basis until one day when he (Nana Ohene-Ntow) profusely begged to do a monthly payment, at GH210.00 per a room. Little did I know he is a con man; it was a scam to defraud me. The money accrued to GH2, 100.00, but he gave me GH700.00 remaining GH1, 400.00. When he left for Accra. Shortly, eight out of his nine man-squad also got angry and left for Accra, leaving behind Dave Quarshie, his spokesperson on a contract he (Ohene-Ntow) claimed they came for at Akatsi. Since then we only speak on phone, and he keeps giving excuses of coming back soon to pay, but he has not done so. Jean told The Herald, that Nana later called him on phone that he had wanted Quarshie to meet with him in Accra so he could send the money through him but surprisingly, Mr. Quarshie left and never returned, leaving behind their personal effects. The Herald was shown the personal effects of Nana Ohene-Ntow. They include his complimentary card, his picture and an Identity card (ID) as National officer issued him for the 2009 National Conference of the NPP. The hotel bill accrued to GH3,900.00. When all efforts to reach him (Nana) proved futile, after I was sacked from school, I narrated my ordeal to Mr. Quarshie, who later sent me GH180.00 of the total sum remaining GH3,720.00 He wont answer my calls or reply my text massages; I am now a drop out from the University since my Dad refused to cater for my school fees; I even sold my motor-bike to settle part of the bill, but my Dad wont let me. He hasnt returned for the past one year. I was later told that he was an NPP guru who was seeking for a contract under the Mills-led NDC government which failed, said he. It has meanwhile, been revealed that Nana Ohene-Ntow with his men were supplying chippings to road constructors working on the Tadzewu-Ave Havi road at the time, at a village called Sorokpokorpe where a quarry is being done. Their belongings still lie in the Hotel rooms, said Jean. However, Jean Igore is threatening a court action against Nana Ohene-Ntow, saying Nana Ohene-Ntow must cough the money with interest. He is remembered for staying in the state bungalow for years, while serving as NPP General Secretary. This was after he served in the Kufuor government as one of the Spokespersons. When the Kufuor government was booted out of office, it was discovered that he converted the state bungalow into a Shito Factory and had also accumulated utility bills for the state to pay. Meanwhile, in a phone interview with The Herald last Saturday, Nana Ohene Ntow admitted owing the suspended university student but explained that he had to abandon a road project under the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), he was executing as a sub-contractor due to political victimization. I had gone to borrow money and I mean serious money; the equipment alone, the equipment I took to the site alone was going to cost me over GH350,000, he lamented to this paper, adding, Transporting the equipment alone from the Western Region and Ashanti Region to the site cost me almost GH55,000. He lamented that but for the contractors decision to buy chippings from Shai Hills instead of committing himself to buying it from his outfit, he would have paid all these debts, including the hotel bills which is meager compared to other sums he owed as a result of the sub-contract. I had gone to borrow, as I speak to you now over six different non-bank institutions are after me because of that project and he went and used the money to buy different chippings from Shai Hills and now I am in a mess that is how come I havent paid this guys, said he. He said he had been communicating with Mr. Igor and had promised him that he was re-organizing himself to pay all the moneys he owed, adding things are a bit hard for him now, a reason he has not been able to settle his debts. So I told him look, the business went bad so I am trying to re-organize myself, look for some money I owe, yours is even very small what I am telling you is close to half a million Ghana Cedis what I am telling you about, its not a joke. Things went so bad, am telling you. He spoke to me this Thursday and I told him things are rough so you hold on you a young man and I know you need some money. He said if I have the money I am not going to keep the money while you are in this difficulty, he said. The project according to Nana Ohene Ntow was awarded to the contractor during the NPPs era and so he wondered why anybody would think that because he is an NPP member, he could not work in the area as he has been tagged as a foreigner. Asked what he is doing about the contractor, he said he had spoken to his lawyers but the issue has some political implications.
