According to the Greater Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Nyaunu about 2000 traders attacked the Police and journalists who were in area by throwing stones, and setting small fires in the streets. They also set fire to a metro mass transport bus, and to a building close to Ghana Commercial Bank branch here. He said it took a joint team of Police and Fire Service personnel to calm the situation and put out the fires. DCOP Tetteh Nyaunu said the Police will remain in the area for the next twenty-four hours to protect the property in the area. Citi FM reporters in the area have said the traders claim they will not allow the government to rebuild the market because of the possibility of exorbitant prices which might be charged for the new shops. They said the shops will be too expensive for them to afford hence the attack. The entire Kantamanto market area was razed down by fire on Sunday morning.
