The Chairman of Berock Ventures Ltd, Rockson Dogbegah has been adjudged the Best Entrepreneur, Building and Civil Engineering category at the 3rd UT Ghana Entrepreneur Awards for 2012. Mr. Dogbegah was awarded for his outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, personal integrity and commitment, as well as his vision and innovativeness that had resulted in the transformation of Berock Ventures, a small indigenous construction to a financially sound company. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, Mr. Dogbegah recounted the humble beginnings of Berock Ventures, and how diligence and hard work with particular attention to professionalism had brought the company this far. He lauded the Board and staff for their relentless efforts and dedicated the award to them. According to him the hallmark of the company is quality and timely delivery on projects, values he said had led to its success and growth. Mr. Dogbegah challenged indigenous construction firms to embrace professional values and uphold them to ensure that they grow their businesses in the most professional manner. He said price undercutting and the haste to take on just any contract had forced many contractors to embark on projects that the contract sum cannot support. The end result, he said, is the shoddy job with its attendant problems, leading to a bad name for the contractor. Berock is one of the top construction firms in Ghana, handling a number of projects including a fifteen storey building and the first National ICT Park. The company plans to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year and Mr. Dogbegah said the next phase would be to expand beyond Ghana. He founded and nurtured Berock Ventures over the past 20 years and was the Chief Executive Officer until end of 2011, when he resigned and became Chairman of the Board of the Company. Mr. Dogbegah is also the Chairman of the Ghana Centre of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and has been a strong advocate of professionalism in the construction industry in Ghana. He is currently leading a crusade to get a Regulatory and Development Board set up for the construction industry, a move he believes will ensure a proper development of the construction industry, which contributes about 10 percent of Ghana�s Gross Domestic Product.
