PLWHAs Appeal To Government Over Strikes By Pharmacist

People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs), in the Brong-Ahafo Region are beseeching government to address the challenges of Pharmacists in order for them to resume work. According to them, the constant protracted strike by Pharmacists is adversely affecting their health as they do not get access to badly needed Anti-retroviral Drugs. They explained that about two months ago Pharmacists embarked on a strike and on the third of this month again embarked on another. During all these instances, the PLWHAs go to the Pharmacies for their drugs but are unable to get their drugs due to the strike. They said on the third of this month, they went to clinic five at the Sunyani Regional Hospital where they collect their Anti-retroviral Drugs and although there was a doctor at post, the Pharmacists did not work. They alleged that attempts to call some of the Pharmacists at the hospital proved futile as none of the Pharmacists answered their calls. According to them, the strike could have adverse effect on the health of the PLWHAs as the Anti-retroviral Drugs they collect monthly from Pharmacies are supposed to be taken on a daily basis. According to them, the drug dosages if not strictly adhered to, could weaken their immune system and have fatal consequences. They are therefore appealing to the Government to address the salary concerns of the Pharmacists as their lives are at risk.
