WOYOME CASE: Waterville MD Concludes Evidence

A former Managing Director of Waterville Holdings Limited, Mr Andrea Orlandi, has concluded giving evidence in the on-going case in which Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a businessman is being tried for causing financial loss to the state. Mr Orlandi, the seventh prosecution witness, told the court that at a meeting with the Attorney General on February 3, 2010, the accused was asked to provide his claims on financial engineering while Waterville was also asked to do same on works done for CAN 2008 stadia projects. At that meeting, he said, there were three representatives from the Attorney Generals Department, a representative from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, two representatives from the government consultants and Mr Woyome himself. Answering questions during cross-examination by Mr Osafo Buabeng, counsel for Mr Woyome, Mr Orlandi indicated that during the meeting the accused presented his claims and the work he did in respect of financial engineering. He said the Attorney General then said she now understood the difference of the two claims and asked Woyome to officially present his claims for the financial engineering as well as the claims of the works done. The case was adjourned to May 20, 2013. Woyome has been charged with two counts of wilfully causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretence, for allegedly putting in false representation to claim GH51.2 million from the government through a default judgement. He has, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently on a GH20 million bail.
