Kantamanto Traders Would Be Given Priority After Construction of Ultramodern Market

A Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has assured victims of the fire outbreak that occurred at the Katamanto market of governments commitment to place their interest first when the new market is constructed. According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the victims will not be left out when the Katamanto area is transformed into an ultramodern market as disclosed by the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). Addressing the concerns of the traders who suspect foul play by the authorities, he said in an interview with Radio Gold that a government delegation comprising the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, Julius Debrah, Greater Accra Regional Minister and other high-profile officials held a meeting with the traders to find lasting solutions to the commotion surrounding the reconstruction of the market. He revealed that during the meeting, government sought to demystify the minds of the traders as they were made aware of governments intention to assist them. The delegation, according to him, advised the aggrieved traders to remain calm as government ensures that moving forward whatever reconstruction effort takes place is done in a manner that will ensure a prevention of further fire outbreak at Katamanto. He also urged the victims to desist from any conducts that may undermine the peace of the locality, stressing that government will continue to hold talks with them in order to address their grievances. They can rest assured that whenever the market is constructed, they will be given the first option of perching before any other fresh interested traders are considered, he stated.
