Government is Unaware Of Kidnappings Of Ghanaians In Libya Ofosu Kwakye

The Information Ministry has said it has no knowledge of the alleged abduction and killings of some Ghanaians living in Libya. A Ghanaian living in Libya has alleged that some Ghanaians living in Libya been abducted and some killed in Libya over the past year. He lamented that the perpetrators usually extort monies from them, and failure to produce the said ransom could lead to one's death. In an interview on Citi FMs Eyewitness News program on Thursday with Shamima Muslim Alhassan, the Deputy Information Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye indicated that, the Information Ministry has received any information that suggest that Ghanaians have either been abducted or murdered in Libya. According to him, about seven Ghanaians living in Libya illegally were deported to Ghana last week. He indicated that various circles in Libya have been conducted and it has not appeared that there is any information as at now saying that Ghanaians have been either kidnapped or murdered in Libya. He opined that although it is difficult to determine the bases on which the witness is making the claim, he would be well advised to get in touch with the embassy in Libya and provide some links as to where we can find information regarding the claim that he is making. He further stated that the Ministry would make every effort to find out if there is any truth at all in the claim.
