Prez Mahama Affirms Government�s Commitment To Fighting Money Laundering

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana�s commitment of fighting money laundering and terrorism financing. According to him, money laundering and the likes are cankers that Ghana and other countries in the sub region need to get rid of. The President was speaking at the Ministerial Committee meeting of the Inter-Governmental action group against money laundering in West Africa (GIABA). The meeting was held to create awareness on money laundering and terrorism financing as well as its repercussion in West Africa and to find measures to curb the menace. President Mahama said Ghana has put measures in place to help in curbing the growing pace of money laundering in the country. He reiterated that �Ghana is committed to collaborate with all stakeholders in fighting money laundering. We have made tremendous progress in Ghana�s anti money laundering. We have in place anti-money laundering legislative frame work in fighting money laundering.Ghana is determined and committed to fight money laundering and terrorism financing,� he stated. He pointed out that the fight against corruption in the world especially in West Africa, does not fall in the hands of one person hence the need for collaboration. He said �what is needed is effective regional and sub-regional collaboration as well as putting together resources in fighting the problem�. He added that Ghana will collaborate with GIABA to ensure that our respective countries become unattractive for criminals and suspicious activities. The ministerial meeting had representatives from countries like Ghana, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Togo, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sao Tome and Principe.
