Gold Mining Company Threatens To Drag Government To Court

Hansol Mines, a small scale gold mining company, has given government a 30-day ultimatum to pay them six million dollars or face them in court. This follows a raid by a joint military and immigration service personnel team on their mining concession last month which they claim led to the loss of millions of Ghana cedis. Speaking to Citi News, Public Relations Officer of Hansol Mines, Kofi Okuoko Jnr said they had evidence in the form of a documentary of the raid. I would say that it is a friendly suit for now. What our legal team has done is to petition the Attorney General first and have put our claim before him demanding the government accepts responsibility for undue destruction to our company, so they pay us, he stated. Mr. Okuoku further mentioned: Our legal team has given a time frame, and if the government does not respond favorably to our concerns then we would go to court. We have a genuine claim because they destroyed our property and set our equipment ablaze, stole our gold and we have evidence has even prepared a documentary on all the actions of the security agencies concerning these allegations we are making, he added.
