"Government Is Rather Worrying Kantamanto Traders" - Kwesi Pratt

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has criticized the ruling government for mishandling the recent fire outbreak which demolished the entire Kantamanto market two weeks ago. According him, plans to reconstruct the site and ownership claims coming from the Ga community and government is very horrid since government negotiated with the Ga community to redesign the place to be a modern rail terminal and a market at the same time . The argument over whether or not it should be a railway station or a market, I simply dont understand. Is it not possible to combine the two? Cant they (government) build a railway station with a market up? Havent they seen some before? All those making such argument have also travelled before and have seen such architectural designs before. In most places, a major train station is a combination of stores and train station. Some are even big market with the train station beneath. Communication is really bad on how government is handling the issue, he said. Speaking on PEACE FMs morning show kokrokoo, Mr. Pratt evoked that after the fire, officials of the Ministry of Roads and Transport and Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) visited affected traders as representatives from government, hence questioning why both institutions are now coming up with contradictory plans. Is there no coordination in the center of government? Why cant government officials speak with one voice and bring clarity to this issue? They (government) are rather worrying traders of Kantamanto market. They talk any how, he said.
