Kumasi Police holds hotel murder suspect

The Kumasi Police is holding a suspect in connection with the murder of a private security man working with the Ashfood Hotel at Bantama in Kumasi at dawn on Monday. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yussif Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Police Service confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) but would not give any details about the suspect except to say it is too early in the day. The deceased, whose name was only given as Joe, was gunned down at about 0200 hours by masked armed men believed to be robbers, a tragic incident, that is feeding into the growing uneasiness and apprehension over the security situation in the Kumasi Metropolis. ASP Tanko said the swift response of the Police patrol team to the distress call by people in the neighbourhood, who heard the gunshot, led to the arrest of the suspect. He said a live cartridge was retrieved from him but they could not find the weapon used and vowed to do everything to bring the culprits to justice. Joe was believed to have engaged the robbers in a struggle as they attempted to raid the facility to rob guests there. A visibly shocked staff of the hotel said they did not take away anything after the gruesome killing. The body had since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary.
