ECG Repairs Burnt Substation

Portions of the Achimota substation which got burnt on Sunday, leading to a blackout in parts of Accra, has been repaired, says the Public Relations Manager of the company. Mr William Boateng told the Daily Graphic in Accra that the company worked around the clock to restore power to all affected areas early Monday morning. Following the fire outbreak and subsequent power outage, Mr Boateng said operatives of the National Security, some top officials of ECG and the Energy Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, went to the substation to assess the situation. After the assessment, he said, it was detected that electricity cables, wires and other vital installations of the substation had been damaged. However, he said the technical team of the ECG was able to restore power at 12am on Monday after the damaged parts had been either replaced or repaired. What we are doing now is mopping up, protections and control to ensure uninterrupted supply of power, he said.
