An 18-year-old unemployed, Enoch Nyame, caught with stolen cellular phones has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice William Boampong.
The phones belong to five students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who were busily writing their semester examination and had left their bags containing the phones outside the examination hall.
He pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang gave the names of victims as Alfred Asante Boadu, Gideon Agyenim Boateng, Jedidiah Domfeh, Tricia Efe Baidoo and Abena Amoah Ababio.
The convict first struck on May 3, at about 0900 hours, and succeeded in escaping with three phones.
Eight days after, he returned, but this time round, things went wrong and he was arrested and handed over to the police.
The prosecution said a search conducted in his room uncovered other phones with their SIM cards, which were all identified by its owners.
Nyame confessed to the crime in his caution statement.
