Ghana's Judicial System Has Been Used To Dupe The State - FGJ

Convener of the Forum of Governance and Justice (FGJ), Dr. Clement Apaak, has stated that based on the evidence available to him, he suspects that the nation's justice system has been used to dupe the state of millions of Ghana cedis. Speaking to Citi News, he pointed out that the awarding of GHC546,000 to KAE Company limited, was a clear example of his position. KAE Company limited secured a settlement of GHC 546,000 after a contract to construct irrigation facility worth GHC 1,200 was terminated in 1984. Dr Apaak indicated, there is something wrong with the judiciary. On what basis can KAE be awarded a judgment debt in excess of GHC 500,000 when the original contract was not up to GHC 2,000 and even the original judgment he got was not even up to GHC 5,000. We must encourage the Commissioner to bring forward all of the entities and to look at all the judgement debts going back to, as far as we can, to unearth what has gone wrong, to retrieve fraudulent amounts that companies and individuals conniving with them have been able to obtain through the state using the justice delivery system itself." According to him, the judgment debt awarded to KAE Company limited was broad day robbery. "I believe this is just one example of many more. We would have to be prepared for very damning revelations of the justice delivery system itself.
