Waiter Jailed Eight Years For Assault

An Accra circuit court on Wednesday sentenced Frank Idiomugu, a waiter to eight years imprisonment for assaulting a trader. The court presided over by Justice Ebenezer Osei Darko sentenced Idiomugu on his own plea. The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustina Enti told the court that the complaint in the case is a fried rice seller, who lives at Awoshie. She said on April 28, 2013 at about 0200 hours, the complaint saw the accused person beating one Omari Collins, a witness in the case mercilessly at a spot closed to where the accused worked. The prosecutor said the complainant realised that the accused was brutalising the witness (Omari) and therefore decided to approach the accused person and plead with him to stop. She told the court that the accused person turned on the complaint, saying You, I mean you long time and today you have fallen into my trap. The prosecution said the accused after making the remark, left the scene and returned with an axe and inflicted deep cuts on the waist and back of the complaint. ASP Enti said the complainant fell unconscious and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was admitted. After the incident, she said, the accused escaped but he sent a text message from his hideout to one Tony, directing him to pick the axe he had hidden at a spot and conceal it from the Police. She said Tony however went for the axe and handed it over to the Police and with the assistance of inhabitants from the area the accused was arrested. The prosecution said the accused was charged with the offence.
