Pentecost University College (PUC) has debunked claims that Muslim students in the University are being barred from practicing their religion. Friday�s edition of the "Herald" newspaper indicated that Muslim students on PUC campus located at Sowutuom in Accra, are being forced by school authorities through strict directive to attend church service as Christians instead of going to the mosque. However, speaking in an interview on Peace FM news, one Mr Emmanuel Kyei stated categorically that the story is false and unfounded. According to him, no school authority stops Muslims from going to pray at the mosque or from practicing their religion. He said with full knowledge of the 1992 constitution and what it states about worship and religion, there is no way, they will stop anyone from practicing their religion. Explaining further, he said they have a gathering called �the college Assembly� where spokespersons are invited to speak to the students on various issues, adding: �it is not a church service and we don�t even force the students to attend the College Assembly�. �I was a bit surprised about the story because we don�t force anybody to go church. We don�t have the power to do that especially when we know the 1992 constitution grants everybody freedom of association and freedom of religion. I am surprised our Muslim brothers are even saying that. We don�t stop anybody from going to the mosque. We even have other fellowships on campus like the Apostolic students Association (APOSA) and others who go about their various activities without fear or hindrances� he said. The reporter should have done a proper investigation instead of just putting a story out there indicating that the school authorities are stopping Muslims from worshiping in their Mosques, �we respect every religion� he added.
