Workers To Demand For Better Remuneration

Employees are being advised always negotiate for better basic pay and not allowances, since it was the basic pay that would enhance their pension contributions. Speaking in an interview on Peace FM news, Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Mr Sam Pee Yaley said it is mandatory for every employer to register and pay the employees contribution as far as Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is concerned. Employees on allowances must ensure that they are migrated to monthly salary so that they will benefit from the scheme...Effective July 1, 2013, the NPRA will prosecute any employer who has refused or failed to register on any scheme. They had better take this warning seriously because their workers will not have a benefit of the full reforms, he asserted. Mr Yaley hinted that so far about 5,566 people had been registered under the new pension scheme, out of an estimated 32,000 employees and advised that worker will fight for better remuneration especially under the new three tier pension scheme. Workers must ensure that their contributions are paid on time and employers must insist that they pay regularly to avoid penalties he added.
