Holiday makers throng beaches to climax AU DAY

Holiday makers are marking the African Union (AU) holiday, which fell on Monday holiday with recreational events such as picnics and family fun day. As at 1030 hours when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Krokobite beach, a large number of merry-makers had converged amidst music, food and drinks to spice up their activities. More families and friends were seen arriving with their beach mats, ice chests packed with assorted drinks and food items while a number of corporate entities were holding picnics. At the entrance to the beach, owners charged a mandatory fee of GH�2.00 per individual before allowing the revellers in. There were also the presence of security personnel deployed at the beach to ensure law and order. A policeman, who spoke on condition of anonymity to the GNA, said their presence was to assist merry makers especially women and children to enjoy the day. Some revellers expressed happiness about the high security presence and said they were hopeful security would be maintained during subsequent holidays.
