Poku lifts MTN Asantehene�s trophy

Twenty-two year-old Kwabena Poku, on Sunday lifted the giant trophy of the MTN Asantehene tournament held in Kumasi. Poku, of the Kumasi-based Royal Golf Club scored a gross of 143 points to emerge the champion of the 56th edition of the competition, which was teed-off by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. The three-day event brought together golfers across the country and beyond. Daniel Ntim, also from Royal Club placed second, scoring a gross of 147 points, with Joseph Klah of Achimota Club finishing third, with a gross score of 149. Ivorian golfer Vivian Koame won the ultimate in the Ladies scratch event with a gross score of 168. This is the third time she has come out tops. Jesika Tei and Cynthia Nyantakyi took the second and third positions with scores of 177 and 181, respectively. Nicoline Cato topped the Men�s Handicap event with the net score of 140 with William Takyi, in second place. Mercy Ampofo returned a net score of 150 to win the Ladies Handicap event. Nelly Hage beat Victoria Agyei with count back score of 150 to 159 to take the second position. In the professional event, Vincent Torgah of Tema returned a gross score of 282 to pick the cash prize of GH�5,000.00. Kojo Barnni of Tarkwa scored 286 to beat Kwame Korsah from Kumasi, who netted 294 to third place. They received cash prizes of GH�3,500.00 and GH�3,000.00 respectively. Otumfuo Osei Tutu was elated at the heavy participation of both professional and amateur golfers and urged the management of the Royal Golf Club to explore other avenues for raising funds to maintain the course.
