Makola Fire Victims Asked To Remain Calm

Victims of the firestorm which destroyed properties worth thousands of cedis at the Makola Market Annex opposite the Ghana Law School in Accra have been asked to remain calm. Managing Director of MMC Properties Management Limited, caretakers of the Makola Shopping Mall, Rose Margaret Kpodo made the call in an interview with Citi News. Aside the shopping mall, Mrs Margaret Kpodo said about 500 trading facilities are located at the market out of which 46 table shops were destroyed by the inferno on early hours of Saturday. Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak, and she appealed to the victims to cooperate with the investigative bodies. She urged them to volunteer information to the investigators to enable them to make appropriate recommendations to government. We are appealing to our tenants who have been victims of this unfortunate incident that forensic investigation is going on, so we are just pleading with them to exercise restraint and cooperate with the security agencies as they conduct their investigations. She cautioned them against any attempt to force their way into the market since the place had been cordoned off for security reasons. We will appeal to them not to tamper with any evidence. If they have any issues, they should just see the Branch Manager of the Makola Shopping Mall and he will attend to their issues; nobody should attempt to go inside the cordoned off area.
