Four Grabbed Over Fuel Station Robbery

Four suspected armed robbers who beat a middle-aged security man, resulting in his face and head being covered in blood, and dumped him in a nearby bush have been arrested by the police. The 56-year-old security man stationed at the Goil Filling Station at Kuntunase is said to have resisted attempts by the robbers to break into the safe of the filling station to steal the days sales. The robbers then tied him up and hit his head with offensive objects, including a locally manufactured pistol, after which they dumped him in a nearby bush, thinking that he had died. Briefing The Finder, the Amasaman District Commander, Superintendent Kojo Asante, named the suspects as Samuel Bekoe, 23, a labourer at Sapieman; Simon Lostu, 30, a tiller at Nyabeman; Isaac Boadi, 27, and Stephen Okoh, 19, both masons. He said a fifth suspect is, however, on the run. Superintendent Asante said on Saturday, May 24 at about 2.40am the Information Control Room of the Ghana Police received a distress call that five men armed with locally manufactured pistol and pinch bars had broken into the Goil Filling Station at Kuntunase, near Amasaman. He said based on the information, the police rushed to the crime scene only to meet the security man unconscious with blood oozing from his head and was quickly sent to he Amasaman Hospital for treatment. The sales girls at the filling station narrated the incident to the police. They said that they were asleep when the suspects broke into their room and asked them to surrender all the money they had made from sales for the day. Superintendent Asante added that the suspects stole an amount of GH470 from the victims and bolted into a nearby bush. The police patrol team quickly pursued them but could not trace them. According to the police Commander, upon a tip-off on that same day the police traced the suspects to their hideouts, where they were arrested. He said the victims identified two of the suspects at an identification parade which was organized by the Amasaman Police and that upon interrogation the suspects admitted the offence. A search at the residents of the suspects revealed a talisman, a locally manufactured pistol, two pinch bars and a mask which was identical to a similar one that police retrieved at the crime scene.
