NPP Supporters Eulogize Bawumias Mother

Family home of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia 2012 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Kperiga in Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region continue to be inundated by visitors from the southern part of the country especially supporters of the party. In the last couple of weeks, several persons including leading members of the party from Kumasi and elsewhere have visited Hajia Mariama Bawumia 73 year old Mother of the astute economist to congratulate her for bringing forth what many of them termed a blessing to Ghana. In keeping with the Ghanaian tradition where new born babies are celebrated during outdoorings, Lariba Abudu cousin to Dr. Bawumia however expressed her outmost shock at the droves of people who continue to pour into the Kperiga residence with congratulatory messages to mother of the 49 year old. According to her, they initially thought some of the visitors were mere passerbys only to be told that they specifically embarked on the trip to appreciate the womb that brought forth the Former Governor of the Bank of Ghana. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is the key witness of the election petition case pending before the Supreme Court has won the hearts of many people especially NPP supporters of the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Central Regions. Many of them who have never had the opportunity of personally meeting the former NPP running mate contend with the fact that he has proven himself worthy of being an icon of the party watching his composure and responses on the televised election petition case. He has been very critical of the election petition believing the NPP will emerge victorious at the close of the day and took centre stage to give his evidence in chief as well as being crossed examined by counsels for respondents. While answering to the many queries, supporters of the party had the opportunity to appreciate his level of intelligence and touted him as a blessing to the NPP believing that he will hold the banner of the party high for several decades to come. It was therefore not surprising that many including the aged tripped to the northern town of Kperiga in Walewale of the West mamprusi District to shower praises on Hajia Mariama Bawumia for the honour bestowed the NPP. Pundits are already predicting him as a suitable replacement for the Partys 2012 Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo Addo should he succeed in ruling for two terms and fades out in event the NPP wins the supreme Court case. A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa Paul Collins Appiah Ofori who is muting this agenda insist the young economist has what it takes to lead the NPP into several victories. Though the Former MP was a lead critic who heavily descended on Dr. Bawumia when he was chosen as running mate in 2012 elections, he found reason to turn around giving the present trend of affairs and told Accra based XYZ fm he would be the obvious choice for the party if Nana Addo decides not to contest again. If the petition goes in our favour and Akufo-Addo becomes the head of state, after serving his two terms, Dr. Bawumia becomes automatic presidential candidate for NPP. According to him, Dr. Bawumia has proven himself worthy of being the partys Flagbearer due to his role in the ongoing election petition case and has all it takes to be one. Others members of the party who share his view, believe it would help demystify the perception that the NPP is an Akan party a major campaign tool that was and is still being used by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dr. Bawumia was very instrumental in the NPP winning 10 parliamentary seats from a pitiful 3 in the Northern Region during the 2012 general which was tagged as a no go area by the NDC. It is among the footnotes why Mr. Appiah-Ofori said Dr. Bawumia should be considered above former Presidential Aspirants of the party including Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten. So far Dr. Bawumia has performed really well and if given the chance, he will perform well as the President
