Government has over the past four years placed a total of GH�120 million into the development of education in Ashanti, the Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, has said.
This led to the construction of structures including science and computer laboratories, assembly and dining halls, classrooms and dormitories.
Added to these, were free distribution of laptop computers and exercise books.
Mr Opoku was speaking at this year�s regional education sector annual review meeting in Kumasi.
�Moving the nation forward through education� was the theme.
In attendance were Education Directors, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMCEs), chiefs, assembly members, religious leaders, heads of basic and senior high schools and retired educationists.
The Regional Minister spoke of their determination to improve the human resource base of the country to ensure accelerated socio-economic progress.
He called for efficient system of assessing the performance of teachers to ensure that those who distinguish themselves are rewarded with promotion.
Mrs Benedicta Naana Biney, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said there is the need for all stakeholders to work together to achieve set targets.
Every effort should also not be spared to get all children of school going-age enrolled in school, she said.
Mr Kofi Sarfo Kantanka, the Regional Education Director, said 363 qualified teachers were granted study leave with pay for the 2012/13 academic year to upgrade themselves.
Nana Kwaku Amankwaa Sarkodie II, Sewuahene, complained about inadequate teachers in deprived schools and suggested the engagement of unemployed graduates by the GES to fill the existing vacancies.
