Two Arrested For Attempting To Traffic Wee

Two men who attempted to smuggle 115 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) outside the country have been arrested in Accra. The suspects, Kola Abudul Aziz, 30, and Yussif Abudulraman, 18, both Nigerians, were apprehended in possession of the substance at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Accra New Town station on a Benz bus heading for the Aflao border. Their destination was their home country, Nigeria. Briefing journalists in Accra yesterday, the Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACOP) Mr Timothy Bonga Yoosa, said the two men were arrested following a tip-off. He said on Monday evening the police received a call that two men, believed to be Nigerians, were in possession of Indian hemp and were trying to board a Benz bus for Aflao. A police team was subsequently dispatched to the New Town station where it arrived on time to stop the bus carrying the two men. Upon a search,115 parcels of Indian hemp were seen in a bag belonging to Aziz and Abudulraman. After interrogation, Mr Yoosa said the suspects admitted ownership of the substance and alleged that a resident of New Town whom they named as Ahmed was the person who sold the substance to them. He said all attempts by the police to locate the whereabouts of Ahmed proved futile. Mr Yoosa, therefore, called on the public to assist the police to trace Ahmed. Aziz and Abudulraman are currently in police custody awaiting police forensic report before being processed for court.
