Murtala Mohammed Must Know His Position As Information Minister And Not A Propagandist

A member of the NPP communication team, Asamoah Gyamfi has called on the Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Hon. Murtala Mohammed to distinguish himself from the party he belongs to whenever he passes comments on issues in his capacity as a minister. He orated that some of his (Murtala Mohammeds) statements are not that of a minister as he explained that when one becomes a minister of the state, the representation of that minister is no longer the party which gave the position but the entire nation as a whole. In view of the ministers statement on President Mahamas visit to France, the NPP communicator debunked the idea that the Presidents visit to France is special; stating that the French Presidency since Ex-President Rawlings to J.A Kuffours reign has always been the first country in Europe to invite a Ghanaian President. Speaking on Okay FM, he said that the actions of the information minister must be to serve the nation and not his master alone; reiterating that as an information minister he must not been seen to be a propaganda minister who always whitewash every issue to favor or praise his government. He slated Hon. Murtala Mohammed for accusing a leading member of the petitioners legal team, Gloria Akuffo of contempt, for stating that the petitioners are winning the case. To him, Gloria Akuffo knows which areas in the court case to comment on and she has been known to say no to issues which are before the Supreme Court judges; adding that the NDC lawyer, Ato Dadzie who speaks on any issues irrespective of the consequences his utterances may bring has not received similar rebuke from the information minister. He challenged the deputy information minister to make reference to any issue which Madam Gloria Akuffo has made which should call for contempt of court; reiterating that the minister should not make allegations he cannot substantiate because to him (Asamoah Gyamfi) there is no issue which the spokesperson for the counsel for the petitioners has said which is contemptuous.
