Pastor shot in highway robbery

Highway robbers in the early hours of Monday struck on the Tokoruanu-Dambai section of the Accra-Kete-Krachi road, leaving one person dead. The seven robbers waylaid a bus transporting passengers to Kete-Krachi in the Krachi West District of the Volta Region, when a gang shot into the bus killed Pastor Gaspard Dankwa, 53-year-old from Tepa-Amanya in the Biakoye District, on the spot. Two others including Mr James Adu, teacher at Banda Junior High School, sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical attention at the Worawora Hospital. Mr Samuel Akumeah, Krachi Divisional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that highway robbers wielding AK 47 assault rifles, locally-manufactured guns and other offensive implements barricaded the road with logs, when the bus pulled up between 0250 and 0355 hours. A victim of the robbery; Ms Akosuah Darkua told the GNA she over-heard the robbers discussing that their target was a metro mass bus that plies Dormabin and Accra before the bus run into their web. Hospital sources say the victims are responding to treatment. Meanwhile, the Police have increased patrols along the stretch and urged the public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of the culprits.
