You are certainly bound to be misled if you are to assume that the 2012 general elections was controlled by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. According to the chairman of the commission, for as long as he has been working with the commission, elections, have been handled by temporary staffs. Making a definite statement, Dr. Afari Gyan informed the court that �temporary staffs have always controlled our elections�. He took off his hat for the people who worked for the EC in last year�s elections declaring that in spite of the errors, the EC will take ultimate responsibility for the errors. He further stressed that to the extent that the EC accepted responsibilities for the work of temporary staffs, the political parties must follow suit and do same. He also refuted claims by lead counsel for the petitioners, that in the case of the 2012 general elections, temporary staffs recruited lacked qualities compared to those who supervised previous elections. Dr. Afari Gyan made it clear that he can bet his last penny on the abilities of the recruited temporary staffs; which he claimed wasn�t low in quality. He reiterated that �temporary staffs have always controlled our elections� including the 2012 elections.
