Kwesi Appiah Facing Selection Headache Ahead of Lesotho Clash

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is facing a tough decision on which players to start in their clash against Lesotho in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Sunday. A fitness boost, a suspension and the blistering form of Ukraine-based striker Dominic Adiyiah have conspired to present selection problems for the Black Stars coach. With Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah fully fit for the match he is now available for selection as a first team starter for the Black Stars. The playmaker missed the starting line-up in their match against Sudan last week because of fitness concerns and now that he has fully responded the coach must consider him for selection. This presents the biggest headache for the coach as Asamoahs position on the left wing already has stiff competition with Sulley Muntari, Mubarak Wakaso and Christian Atsu vying for the same position. Coach Appiah will also be without left-back Richard Kissi Boateng who was sent off in the 3-1 win over Sudan on the road. The coach must now decide whether to throw Greuther Furth youngster Baba Abdul Rahman to the deep end or shift utility player Harrison Afful to left. If the coach decides on the latter then he will be forced to start Samuel Inkoom at the right-back position which the the favourite position of Afful. Another challenge for the coach is who to partner striker Asamoah Gyan upfront with both likely candidates Richmond Boakye Yiadom and Dominic Adiyiah in excellent shape. Yiadom was started in last weeks match against Sudan and did well to prove to the coach that he is a candidate for that position in future matches. In fact he set up Gyan for Ghanas first goal in the 3-1 win in Omdurman last week but Adiyiah much improving form in training will also make him a contender for that position. Despite it presenting selection challenges for the coach, it bodes well for the Black Stars as the best of the best will be selected to help Ghana to the much-needed win. Juventus ace Kwadwo Asamoah who missed last weeks qualifier due to injury is now fully-fit to be selected.
