Dep A-G Shots Back: Martin Amidu Is Being Petty

Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has described as petty, former Attorney General Martin Amidus reaction to the Justice Ministrys assertion that it gave Mr. Amidu ample support in his bid to retrieve 25 million Euros paid to Waterville Holdings as Judgment debt by the Government of Ghana. The Deputy Attorney General, in a statement on Wednesday said: Contrary to the impression created by various media reports that Mr. Martin Amidu was left on his own to fight this case against Waterville, the Attorney Generals office researched and supported the filing of processes leading to our identification with and support for Mr. Amidu in the matter of Martin Amidu vrs. Attorney General, Waterville (BVI) Holdings, Austro-‐Invest and Alfred Woyome. The Bolgatanga East MP noted that: These are matters of public record and can be verified from the Registrar of the Supreme Court. He noted that: The Attorney Generals Office is extending similar support to Mr. Amidu in his case against the Attorney General, Isofotun SA and Anane-‐Agyei Forson for which judgment is expected to be given this Friday June 21. The statement clarified that: In this instance, the Attorney Generals Office personally researched and supervised the filing of processes in support of Mr. Amidu. This is also a matter of public record and can be verified. According to Dr. Ayine, Prior to the institution of both cases by Mr. Amidu in the Supreme Court, the Attorney Generals Office had already initiated action in the High Court to set aside the consent judgments in the case against Woyome and Isofotun. These cases were put on hold when Mr. Amidu filed the two cases in the Supreme Court. In a counter statement to refute the Attorney-Generals claims however, Mr. Mr. Martin Amidu wondered how the AGs Department, which was a Defendant in the case, could have helped the Plaintiff. He said: Waterville was wrongly paid by an Attorney General who, instead of protecting the Republic, chose to unconstitutionally arbitrate and pay 25m euros to [the company]. How then do you help a plaintiff only when you are failing the people? Mr. Amidu wondered. However, Dr. Ayine, in a text message to Joy FM described Mr. Amidus reaction as petty.
