Prez Mahama & NDC Set Civil War Machine In Motion

It has become urgent for the Young Patriots to bring to the attention of the Ghanaian public, a war drumming machine instituted by the NDC and President Mahama in anticipation of the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling on the petition pending before it on the Election results. It is our hope that all well-meaning Ghanaians, civil society groups and especially the Peace Council, which has hypocritically gone to sleep, and more so the New Patriotic Party, will wake up from their slumber and face the reality that the outcome of the ruling will not be accepted by President Mahama and the NDC. President Mahama on addressing NDC members at their party headquarters on the 20th anniversary celebration of the NDC told the whole world that there was only one outcome from the Supreme Court petition which is, to declare him as the winner of the polls. He has since added on at a Church anniversary celebration that he was ordained by God to be President. We will recall that it was our group, Young Patriots, who first called on the President to indicate his acceptance of the final ruling by the Supreme Court. Though it took long in coming, after persuasion by world leaders and some prominent chiefs, the declaration was made, though halfheartedly. We are clear in our minds that the President never meant it and his recent pronouncements affirm this conviction. The President has not only made comments to the effect that there is only one outcome to the election petition but encouraged his party and government officials to set up a machine called the COALITION OF GHANAIAN VOTERS (COGVO) to go round this country and incite Ghanaians to violence in the event that the Supreme Court rules against President Mahama and the NDC. This group, with members including Mr. Bernard Mornah, the unofficial spokesperson for the President, Dr. Clement Apaak, Kofi Wayo, Chris Ackumey and Akwasi Addai Odike have started rallies to incite the public against the Supreme Court and to force the Justices to rule in favor of the President. In one such rally at the Tamale sports stadium last week, Mr. Mornah categorically declared that the Supreme Court cannot declare or determine a winner of the case per the petition. At the same forum Dr. Clement Apaak, speaking to a predominantly northern audience, indicated that the petitioners were in court because President Mahama was a Northerner and we did not want him to be President because of his northern background. This borders on hate speech and inciting the people against a possible Nana Addo victory. On the very same day Bernard Mornah and Clement Apaak were threatening the Supreme Court and inciting violence, Mr Gabby Asuming, a member of the government communication team was on Okay FM declaring civil war on Ghanaians in the event of a Nana Addo victory in the Supreme Court. Gabby Assuming is a free walking man and no one has invited him for questioning nor has anyone taken notice of the genocidal consequences of his statement. I am sure that if any member of the Young Patriots had made such an unfortunate statement, we will find ourselves behind bars at BNI awaiting further interrogation. As we notify the public of the CIVIL WAR MACHINE of the President and NDC, we want Ghanaians take note of these comments and for the appropriate bodies to act with speed. We hope the Peace Council is not on holiday and that the President of the council who recently declared there is peace in Ghana and that nothing will go wrong after the Supreme Court ruling has taken note of these instances and is taking steps to invite the said people to counsel them to preach peace instead of war. The security services, especially the Ghana police have upped their game recently. However their continuous lukewarm attitude towards governmental miscreants can only be a recipe for disaster. We call on the Ghana Police to invite the leadership of COGVO and Mr. Assuming for questioning, else we pray them to keep their hands off when we start making similar statements and going round to also educate our people. We were also very happy and agree with the president of the court when he rightly cautioned the Daily Guide and the general media to be circumspect in their reportage on happenings within and outside the court during today's sitting on the papers earlier publication on his alleged lost but found box of pinksheets during the audit by KPMG. We are however disappointed that the panel president failed to comment on other statements which have been extensively published and discussed coming from President Mahama, his deputy minister of information, Felix Ofosu Kwakye and PNC General secretary Bernard Mornah which are considered perhaps more dangerous to the service of Justice. Last but not least, we wish to call on the NPP and its leadership to wake up from their slumber. We may have a good case but our opponents are equally opponents of the rule of law and do not play by the rules. NDC will not take the ruling of the Supreme Court lying down if it goes against them. The NPP cannot pretend not to know all the machinations going on to intimidate the Supreme Court judges and to incite Ghanaians against a possible NPP government that is now on the horizon. We however want to congratulate the Supreme Court on their steadfastness, courage and fairness which is on public display as seen in their recent rulings. We encourage them to be firm, fearless and honest in their final ruling and that they should not be intimidated by whatever machinations the NDC and President Mahama are up to. We encourage all parties to respect the final ruling of the court. However we will stand up against any person or group of persons who will attempt to subvert the constitution through disobeying the ruling of the court. We wish to further state that if institutions and persons mandated to act, fail to do so and bring the above mentioned person to book, no one should attempt stopping us when we use similar methods to address our concerns, for peace is not the absence of war but the presence of justice. .Signed.
