A presidential task force called �Special Operations Unit� has recovered over GHC60,000 revenue at the various ports, borders and highways across the country. The task force according to a Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has so far been able �to intercept a number of vehicles that were carrying varying volumes of goods and have detected major discrepancies in the amount of monies that should have been paid by way of duty.� Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the task force is successfully carrying out its mandate by blocking �the gaps that existed in our revenue collection efforts and have led to the recoveries of significant amount of money for the state.� Addressing the press at the daily press briefing at the Flagstaff House, the Deputy Minister mentioned that the Special Operations Unit since its inception on May 23 and within a space of one week, �they retrieved a total amount of GHC 31,412 was recovered.� According to him, some companies have also been found culpable of under invoicing and the avoidance of payment of duties meant for the state. �About 30 of such companies have been made to pay the penalty. Officials and other individuals involved in the conspiracy to deprive the state of this much needed revenue have also been apprehended and as I speak to you, we do have a number of people in custody,� he added.
