Another Fire Outbreak...In Accra

The Ghana National Fire Service has managed to douse the fire that engulfed the jewelry shop which belongs to Letap Pharmaceuticals Ltd on the Graphic Road in Accra on Tuesday morning. Narrating the incident on Peace FM's "kokrokoo" programme, UTV reporter, Prince Ahenkan in an interview with an eyewitness said the fire which engulfed the top floor of the three-storey building started at around 3am. It is reported to house several pharmaceuticals products at the time of the incident. At the time of the report the Police Service had however arrived at the scene to cordon off the premises and maintain law and order as it was crowding up with onlookers. Chief Fire Officer, James Oheneba Yaw Kwarteng, who was in-charge of putting out the fire outbreak, at the LETAP Jewelry building, told the press that his men had to rescue workers from the three storey building before fighting the fire. According to him, the Fire Service managed to save a number of foreigners, believed to be workers of the jewelry shop, from the building before commencing the fight to quench the inferno. What we did was to rescue those in residence before the actual fire fighting started, he said. Mr. Kwarteng, however could not readily tell what may have started the fire since investigations to ascertain the real cause of the inferno is inconclusive.
