Parties In Presidential Election Petition Likely To Cross-examine KPMG

The Parties to the Presidential election petition before the Supreme Court are likely to start cross examination of the Head of Audit Practice of KPMG, Nii Amanor Dodoo today. The firm on Monday tendered in evidence its final report on its audit of pink sheets filed by the petitioners. The firm counted the set of pink sheets kept in the custody of the Registrar of the Court and the set served on the President of the Court, Justice William Atuguba. KPMG was appointed an independent referee to count the pink sheets following disagreements between the petitioners and the respondents over the exact number of pink sheets filed. Due to the controversy, lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison could not complete his cross examination of the Chairman of the EC, Dr Kwadwo Afari -Gyan, forcing the court to adjourn proceedings for almost two weeks. Now that KPMG has concluded its task and tendered the report, it is expected that the firm will be cross examined on its findings. The cross examination could not start on the day the report was tendered because the petitioners had requested for some time to study the report. The Court however refused their application for a softcopy of the report. After the controversies over the pink sheets are resolved, Mr Addison will continue his cross examination of Dr Afari-Gyan. Counsel for the NDC, Tsatsu Tsikata, had indicated long ago that, he might cross examine the 2012 running mate of the NPP, Dr Mahamadu Bawumiah again based on the outcome of the KPMG findings.
