Children At Ho Hospital At Risk

Children on admission at the Ho Municipal Hospital are likely to go back home infested with malaria parasite. This is because beds at the Childrens Ward are without mosquito nets, exposing the children to bites from insects including mosquito. Madam Gladys Krahene, Senior Nurse in charge of the ward told the GNA on Saturday during an interaction with the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC). The students presented assorted items worth GH1,500 to the Ward. She said: We all, the children, their parents and the nurses here battle with mosquitoes all the time. Madam Krahene explained that although the Ward had mosquito nets, they had not been fixed on the beds for patients, hence the exposure to bites from the insects. She said all 15 children on admission had malaria and anemia. A mother of a 10-year old boy said it had been sleepless nights since the day they were admitted in the ward due to mosquito bites. The situation at the Maternity Ward of the same hospital, however, had the nets neatly fixed on all bed for the patients. Another challenge facing the Childrens Ward is the lack of blood at the blood bank. At the time of the visit, a nine-year old boy was in dire need of blood and had to be rescued by the EPUC SRC after Mr Martin Kwame Sedem, the SRC President paid GH50 for the nurses to look for a blood donor to save the boys life. Mr Sedem said the presentation was the SRCs widows might in support of the Hospital and called for a symbiotic relationship between the University and the Hospital. Ms Rebecca Abiti, Assistant Nurse in charge at the ward, who received the items, expressed gratitude to EPUC and appealed to them to make the visit regular.
