Development of infrastructure in Accra is going to be the priority for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for the next four years. Newly confirmed mayor of the city, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije revealed this to The Finder in an interview over the weekend. He said he will concentrate on the development of schools, markets and drainage systems in line with the agenda of making Accra an attractive capital. Dr Vanderpuije was endorsed by the members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly over the weekend after garnering 107 votes out of the 112 valid votes cast, amounting to 95.54% approval. The Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly, Mr Desmond Addo Biney, also polled 105 of the 112 valid votes cast, representing 84% approval. Dr Vanderpuije thanked the assembly members for voting massively for him and the PM. He said it was a vote of confidence in his administration and appealed to stakeholders, including chiefs, to support him to make Accra a better place. The AMA Chief Executive referred to the development of schools, markets and public places of convenience as some of his achievements in his last four years in office, adding that �despite these, a lot more remains to be done. Thirteen Members of Parliament, five District Chief Executives and 21 heads of department witnessed the voting and confirmation of Dr Vanderpuije. After his confirmation, Dr Vanderpuije initiated a motion to name the Nima High Street and one of the Millennium Schools at the Salvation Army cluster of schools after the Saudi Prince and the President of the United States of America, Barrack Obama, respectively for their contributions to the two projects.
