FIFA Suspends Cameroon!

FIFA has provisionally suspended Cameroon citing government interference in FECAFOOT's matters. This follows the wrangles over Fcafoot president Iya Mohammed's recent re-election, which was then cancelled in a highly tense climate between Iyas supporters and opponents, while the latter is still being held in jail over business dealings. In a statement, FIFA said Cameroon is suspended from all international engagements until the government allows a normalisation committee to carry out its duties at FECAFOOT headquarters without any interference. "During the period of suspension, FECAFOOT may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, or in friendly matches," FIFA stated. "In addition, neither FECAFOOT nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any FIFA or CAF development programmes, courses or training during the suspension period." The development means Cameroons final must-win 2014 World Cup qualifier at home against Libya on September 6 is in serious jeopardy, while their CHAN 2014 qualifier against Gabon this coming Saturday could well be already over. And the same sanction applies to Coton Sport de Garoua, who qualified for the 2013 CAF Champions Leagues Group phase which kicks off mid-July.
