Tarkwa Court Remands Three Suspects

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded three suspected criminals for attempting to escape from custody. The suspects, David Kwofie, 19, an illegal small scale miner, Jones Hilary,18, unemployed, and Ebenezer Asante,25 a year-old student pleaded not guilty. They will re-appear before the court on July 18. Police, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Kwadwo Agyare is a Police Corporal stationed at the Tarkwa Central Police station and the suspects were in custody facing various categories of crimes. He said on July 2 whiles at duty at the charge office he noticed some unusual movement of the suspects in the cells. He said the complainant then entered the cells where the suspects had been detained, he saw that a portion of the ceiling had been broken. He said when the suspects were questioned about the broken ceiling the first and second accused persons said Ebenezer Asante was responsible for that act. The Prosecutor said Asante denied the offence in his cautioned statement but after investigation they were charged with the offence.
