Mom And Son Die Same Day

Residents of Katakyiase near Nyankomase Ahenkro in the Assin South District of the Central Region on Monday received the shock of their lives when an elderly woman and her son died under bizarre circumstances. Frank Adu Boahen, 35, who was conveying mourners from the area, was involved in an accident and in the process got burnt to death, while his 62-year-old mother, Madam Adwoa Yeboah, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, collapsed and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital where she was sent. The lifeless body of Adu Boahen, which was sent to the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital morgue, had been released to the family for burial after an autopsy. Briefing Daily Daily Guide over the weekend, the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum-Berimah said the incident happened on Monday around 8:00pm. DSP Twum-Berimah said his outfit had information that an unregistered Toyota Corolla was burning at Katakyiase and his men rushed to the scene. He noted that the car was conveying mourners from Katakyiase and on reaching the outskirts of the town, the driver lost control of the steering wheel and hit a palm tree, resulting in the car catching fire. The police chief added that his men were able to rescue four occupants of the car while the driver was trapped in the flames and died on the spot. DSP Twum-Berimah disclosed that two out of the four occupants who were sent to the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital had been transferred to the Central Regional Hospital while one was treated and discharged, with the other on admission at the Abura Dunkwa Hospital. The Police Commander therefore appealed to stakeholders and Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) among others to provide various police stations with fire extinguishers to help them save lives and property when such incidents occur. DSP Twum-Berimah further advised drivers not to drink while driving, in order to reduce road accidents.
