Violence And Lawlessness Can Kill Us All - Adams

Mr Issah Musah Adams, President of Support Life International, have challenged Ghanaians to demonstrate to the world once again, their tenacity to stay united and peaceful after the ruling by the Supreme Court. We cant sacrifice all what God has enabled us to achieve over the years as a nation. Yes, leadership has not been perfect, but the price of lawlessness and violence can kill us all, he told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra on Tuesday as the nation awaits the ruling. We have a mandate to prove to the world that we are a peace-loving people and by nature we are civilized people. We therefore need to respect the law and orderliness no matter what, he said. Mr Adams, a US-based community development advocate, added: Violence and lawlessness should not have a place in our country. Not in this time of age in the 21st century when Ghana has and is setting the pace of democracy for others to follow." The entire nation is waiting for the verdict of the highest court, which had completed its hearing of the 2012 Election Petition brought before it by the leader of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the partys Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey. The three are challenging the Electoral Commissions declaration of the December 2012 Presidential Poll, which announced Mr John Dramani Mahama winner and elected President. Commenting on the growing anxiety over the ruling by August 15, Mr Adams said, the path chosen by the petitioners; especially Nana Akufo Addo had gone down in history and should always be lauded and emulated. That path alone signals to us not to do anything to mar the current atmosphere of tolerance and peace. Whereas other countries resort to conflicts to resolve electoral disputes, Ghana chose to use the legal means. This is the height of our tolerance and who are we are as a people. The nations interest must and should always come first before our political party and or tribe. That is where America got it right and we can do it and even better, Mr Adams said. If the world saw in Kofi Annan, an illustrious son of Ghana, a virtue and peaceful man, and therefore chose him to mediate for peace in other nations, then we must follow suit to protect our peace, Mr Adams said. He said Ghanaians must pursue the national interest devoid of ethnic, political and religious considerations and see political parties as vehicles to facilitate governance and not as a platform to divide and rule. Mr Adams is also the Founder of Support Life International, a non-profit organisation that focuses on complementary health therapy across the world.
