Residents Of Sunyani Remember Late President Mills

A cross section of residents in the Sunyani Municipality on Wednesday eulogized President John Evans Atta Mills that his sudden death last year is an irreplaceable loss to the nation. A number of them the Ghana News Agency (GNA) interviewed lamented that the late President was �such a valuable national asset� whose demise has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill in the annals of Ghana�s political history. Mr. Edward Amanyi, an employee of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in Sunyani, said that the late President Mills was a great legal brain, intellectually a model and a strong pillar academically because he inspired many Ghanaians to pursue careers in the academia and the legal profession. Mr Amanyi urged Government to commit adequate resources to the educational sector for the training of more Ghanaians �for us to get people of his calibre� to spearhead the developmental agenda of the country. Ms. Latipha Yakubu, Marketing Manager of Sky FM in Sunyani, said ��Late President Mills is worthy of being remembered as a national hero because Ghanaians will always remember him for his virtues of humility and fairness.�� The Marketing Manager said the Late President was an embodiment of peace and �I believe by now the king of peace is happy at wherever he is because, since his death the nation has not experienced any chaos or mayhem of gargantuan scale beyond the control of the security agencies�, she said. A taxi driver at the Sunyani Cocoa House Taxi Rank, Mr. Daniel Tekpenor, pleaded that Ghanaians should use the occasion to strengthen the bond of unity and peace in the country, because even in death, �Mills wants us to keep the peace that he wanted us to enjoy�. Mr. Dan Dayee, Brong-Ahafo Regional correspondent of Metro TV, said President Mills� death has been �a big blow� to the nation because the way he handled his critics exhibited tolerance and love required of a leader. Ms. Margaret Asieduaa, a Senior High School graduate, contended that �Professor Mills is dead but he is still among us because we shall always remember him as an apostle of peace�. Ms. Joyce Mensah, a student of the University of Cape Coast, praised the late President for his invaluable contribution to political and socio-economic development. She suggested that �the nation should modestly mark the one year observation of his death� saying that �we must not blow it out of proportion since that will require huge amount of money�. Mr. Osborn Tetteh, a pupil teacher, stated that the late President Mills was a man of many parts and a great leader and the remembrance of his death has taught Ghanaians many lessons.
