Two Fake Doctors Arrested

Two alleged fake doctors have been arrested by the police in Accra and Hohoe. The suspects, identified as Elisee Tettey Torsu and Joseph Kamasah, both middle aged, are believed to be the owners of Hope Dental Work Clinic located at James Town and Korle Gonno in Accra and St Joseph Clinic and Maternity Home at Hohoe, respectively. Torsu, who claimed to have practised as a dentist for about 20 years, was arrested by the Accra Regional Police after an informant reported to the Medical and Dental Council on Monday, July 22, 2013 and the same informant led them to arrest the suspect on July 25, 2013. Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Eli Kwesi Atikpui, said an informant reported to the council on July 22, 2013. Following the report by the informant, the Medical and Dental Council lodged a formal complaint with the police. Led by the informant, the police went to the James Town branch of the hospital where he (informant) posed as a patient to see the doctor (Torsu) for a treatment. Dr Atikpui said the suspect (doctor) showed up after waiting for some time and took the informant (patient) to his consulting room, wore gloves and lay him on stretcher. When Torsu (doctor) was about to inject the gum of the informant (patient) the police pounced in and arrested him. During interrogation, Dr Atikpui said, the suspect claimed to have under studied his father to enable him to practise as a dentist. Elaborating on how Kamasah was arrested, Dr Atikpui said the council had information that a doctor was practising at Hohoe. He said the police visited the hospital and arrested Kamasah on July 18, 2013 after an informant had reported him. According to Dr Atikpui, the six patients who were on admission at the hospital were transferred to the Hohoe Government Hospital. The two suspects are under investigations, after which they would be put before court.
