At long last, the good name of Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, a Former Attorney-General, has been restored after a key prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Mr. Alfred Woyome revealed that at all material times, she acted with the knowledge and consent of the Presidency. Mrs. Iddrisu has had to endure almost two years of condemnation, criminalization and demonization by a section of the public and the media because it was held she acted alone in causing a judgment debt of GH₵51 million to be paid to Mr. Woyome. At the on-going trial of Mr. Woyome at an Accra Fast Track High Court last Friday, a key prosecution witness, Alhaji Ahmed Sulemana, under-cross examination revealed that Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu kept the Presidency informed at every stage of the negotiation between the ministry of Justice and Mr. Alfred Woyome. She also kept the Presidency informed whenever payment was to be paid to Mr. Woyome. Alhaji Ahmed Sulemana said a letter was sent to the Office of Chief of Staff before the payment of the first installment of the judgment debt was made. Another letter by Mrs. Iddrisu which stated that Mr. Woyome and Austro-Invest be paid GH₵4,188,480.57 I was copied to the Chief of Staff. He said the Chief of Staff at no point in time objected to the payments. Documents available to the Daily Post newspaper indicates that indeed, the First Female Attorney-General of Ghana had always kept the Presidency abreast with negotiations with Alfred Woyome and gotten approval before payments were made to him. Why the Presidency kept mute therefore while Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu was being attacked, criminalized and demonized by a section of the public is a mystery to many. She has had to endure insult even from within the NDC for allegedly keeping the Presidency in the dark but as it has turned out, she has been innocent of this allegation. Unfortunately, this false allegation caused her to resign as Minister for Education and has since been left in the cold.
