A 36-year-old farmer has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa circuit court for intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to his wife Philomena Boadu.
The convict, James Akessah, pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on July 27 Philomena was taking her meal outside when she heard her baby crying in the room.
She sent one Margret Ntiako and Emmanuel Boadu on separate occasions to bring the baby but Akessah who was then eating in the room prevented them from taking the baby to her mother.
Inspector Tawiah said Philomena became upset over the convict�s attitude and went for the baby herself and this resulted in a quarrel between them.
Akessah picked a sugar cane and beat up his wife with it and the baby fell on the floor.
A report was made to the police and he was arrested.
