The Western Regional Police Command on Thursday assured the public of its readiness to deal ruthlessly with any group of persons that would foment trouble after the Election 2012 Supreme Court verdict. Speaking at a stakeholders� meeting in Takoradi ahead of the ruling, Western Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, said the police would not condone any act of violence and vandalism. He, therefore, expressed the Command�s preparedness to maintain law and order in the Region no matter the outcome of the verdict. �I sometimes feel apprehensive when I hear high profile personalities saying if the Supreme Court verdict is fair and just, then there will be peace in this country,� he said. �No one can determine what is fair and just because the law lies in the bosom of the judges, therefore whatever the judges come up as their final decision is what is right for the country and no one can subject it to interpretation�, he said. DCOP Boakye said if anyone is not satisfied with the SC ruling could go for review and not resort to chaos, adding that the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land therefore its verdict is final and must be acceptable to both the petitioners and the respondents. The Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Owusu Ankomah, pledged the commitment of the party to abide by the ruling and appealed to its followers and sympathizers to do same. The Regional Youth Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Daniel Darlington, also assured the public of the party�s readiness to obey the verdict. Other stakeholders at the meeting that pledged their commitment to peace included Muslim leaders, Network of Reverend Ministers, National Commission on Civic Education, Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Trade Union Congress, Electoral Commission and the media.
