Labour Experts On Implementation Of Single Spine Pay Policy

The Secretary General of the Ghana Trade Union congress, Kofi Asamoah, says scrapping the Single Spine pay policy should not be an option for government. In an interview with Radio Ghana, Mr Asamoah urged government to rather look at leakages in the payroll system and take a holistic assessment of other indicators that have contributed negatively to the effective implementation of the single Spine pay policy. Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson says the two days are not enough to resolve the hydra-headed problems confronting the Single Spine Salary Scheme. His comments are in reaction to the scheduled two day national stakeholders summit being organised in Ho. Mr Koomson told Radio Ghana that the continued implementation of the new pay policy will depend on the issues that will crop up at the summit. He blamed some staff of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for the numerous agitations on the labour front. In a related development, the Executive Co-ordinator of Labour Rights Institute, Mohammed Affum, has cautioned the fair Wages and Salaries Commission against any reviewed Single Spine Pay Policy that would negatively affect workers salaries. In an interview with Radio Ghana, Mr Affum said any review should take into cognisance the difficult economic conditions affecting workers in the country.
