More NDC Protests Loom

National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth are planning to stage violent protests against the nomination and confirmation of some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Northern Region, Daily Guide has gathered. According to reports, NDC youth in the some districts of the region are bent on ensuring the cancellation of the nominations of their MMDCEs. The paper learnt that other contenders, who were not shortlisted, are encouraging the youth embark on violent protests. The youth have vowed to instigate the dismissal of some MMDCEs who failed to develop their respective areas. One of such persons is the DCE of East Mamprusi, Adam Imoro, who in the last couple of weeks, has come under attack by the youth. If nothing is done in the short-term to defuse tension in the district, a possible bloodbath could mar the planned demonstration, Seidu Tahiru, spokesperson of one of the aggrieved groups. It is unclear what executives of the party in the area are doing to discourage the youth who are planning to remove Mr. Imoro from office. Various youth groups, which hitherto were not planning to protest against the renomination of their DCEs, have taken a cue from NDC youth in Salaga and Gambaga. According to reports, the youth of Nanumba North and South, Yendi, Gushiegu, Karaga, Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo and Savelugu are also considering similar actions. The action of the partys youth has been condemned by various civil society groups in the region. There have also been calls for the arrest of ring leaders of the demonstrators to serve as a deterrent to other youth groups who intend to flout the countrys law with impunity. Some people, who spoke to Daily Guide, advised the youth to use the appropriate channels to seek redress.
