The Strategic Communication Africa (Stratcomm Africa), a communication and event management agency has launched the Innovative Ghana Garden and Flower Conference and Exhibition in Accra. The Conference and Exhibition is dubbed �Ghana Garden and Flower Show�. The show which would be the first of its kind would whip up more interest amongst Ghanaians on how to use gardens and flowers to create a better environment. �The show is designed to help beautify Ghana, enhance its green spaces and make it a pleasant habitat for its citizens while contributing to making Ghana a compelling investment and tourism destination�. It will also �create awareness about the commercial and psychological benefits of urban beautification and gardening, promote tourism, healthier and modern lifestyles and also help create employment and income earning opportunities that support Ghana�s growth and development�. In her statement, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stratcomm Africa, Esther A.N. Cobbah, urged Ghanaians to get involved in gardening in order to enjoy the benefits. �The job creation opportunities and the incomes that could be earned from the flower business are not insignificant as we know from the experiences of other countries. We would like the initiative of having the Garden and Flower Show to get us all thinking about these opportunities,� she indicated. She underscored that gardens and flowers were important for creating the kind of environment that was pleasant and uplifting for human beings. She said it was for that reason that the Department of Parks and Gardens was created by the first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah to be responsible for creating parks and gardens in the urban areas of the country. According to her the show would in collaboration with organisations and individuals such as the Department of Parks and Gardens, Kwame Ayew, former Ghanaian football star in loved with gardens and flowers and Keith Kirsten, a South African, one of the world�s leading horticulturalist and often referred to as �south Africa�s favourite gardener�. Madam Cobbah stressed on the need for Ghanaians to make good use of the natural resources in the country to grow more flowers, noting that �Ghana is blessed with the right climate for growing flowers of all kinds and this can help us achieve so much if we put them to good use�. Madam Karen Hendrickson, author of Ghana�s Beautiful Gardens and the special guest of the event, appealed to the government and all stakeholders to help in this initiative and encourage more people into gardening. The flower and garden show would be held from the 29th to the 31st of August this month. There would be a workshop, exhibition, and a conference.
